About Me
Welcome to Positive Mind Counseling! I am glad you found me! My name is Angela Austin and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist providing online therapeutic services to clients residing in the state of California.
My Personal Bio
I am a mother of twin girls, an energetic boy and a 180-pound Saint Bernard. I have been married for over 17 years and I enjoy traveling and relaxing at the winery with friends. My professional background includes forensic mental health, working with inmates in the county detention center and working with special education students and general education students in the public school system. I have worked many years in a private practice setting focusing on clients suffering from depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, grief, PTSD and high-pressure work environments. My desire to know people on a deeper level is what led me to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and I am honored and blessed to take part in your life journey, even if for a moment in time. I am a strong supporter of law enforcement officers, active duty military and our veterans. I offer Faith-Based Christian Counseling upon request.
Who I Work With
I am most effective with clients suffering from depression because of my optimism and innate positivity. I always see a solution in every problem. With my experience working in the detention facility, I was able to work with clients facing severe charges and long-term sentences. Many times, they were unable to see a light of hope within the dark walls they lived between. This made my work difficult, but I learned how impactful a smile and positivity can be with this population. I treated them as people, no matter their crime, and instilled hope in them by simply listening and allowing them a safe place to express themselves in their dark times.
I am a straight shooter. I call out the elephant in the room when I see it. I believe that if we are not conscious about our mistruths, we will always live without insight - and in turn not be able to grow. I might give some homework, but it’s light and the purpose is to allow the client to try new things that help instill positive changes, which most people come to therapy seeking. I am also understanding and easy to talk to, but my strengths are my listening skills and my genuine interest in knowing and learning about each individual I work with and my strong desire to help begin the change process.
